The comments on that article are hell of depressing.
How terribly inconvenient.
In the long run, this may be a good thing for the people of Toronto. Mayor Miller is traditionally a friend of the labour unions, but in this case they've got him pissed off. So much so that he may just ask the Ontario legislature to declare them an "essential service", completely removing their legal right to strike.
This is why there is an anti strike clause in my union contract..... heh. ouch. Hopefully things get figured out soon.
Are you a transit worker?
no, but a government employee at a "critical service" location. our transit union has a no strike clause too though..
This has me really angry. Normally, I'm all for unions, but they're just screwing people over here. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do about my job tomorrow. My boss is pressuring me to go in, but taking a cab there and back will cost me more than I'll earn by going into work, there's no one available to take my shift who lives closer, and I have no idea if I have any legal right to just flat out refuse to go in because of this.
Call the Ministry of Labour at 416-326-7160 or 1-800-531-5551 to find out if your employer is allowed to force you to come by taxi, etc. | |
